Michael Castro Dies in Rollover Accident on North Center Road Darlington County, South Carolina

Darlington County, South Carolina — A man lost his life in a single-vehicle rollover on North Center Road Thursday evening.

According to reports, Michael Castro lost control of the 2006 Ford pickup he was driving. Castro was traveling south on North Center Road when the truck veered off the right side of the highway, striking a mailbox. The vehicle crossed back over the road and overturned.

Castro suffered fatal injuries.

Thoughts on Ford Pickup Rollover Accidents

Rollovers are dangerous and deadly: even though they make up less than three percent of passenger vehicle accidents, rollovers account for more than 35 percent of roadway fatalities (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Unfortunately, some makes and models of vehicles cause more injuries than others. These vehicles are often legally known as defective.

What does a defective vehicle mean? A defective vehicle is one that does not protect you as you would think it should in an accident.

For example, when put to the test, airbags should deploy, seatbelts should restrain, and roofs should stay intact. Auto manufacturers know this. Manufacturers have a duty to produce cars that can withstand a rollover. The technology needed to prevent a roof from crushing has been around for decades. Manufacturers that choose to use inferior products to save money should not escape liability.

To determine if a vehicle is defective, trained professionals will need to inspect the Ford. The family of the deceased deserves answers. Was this vehicle defective?
