Hyundai Motor America Announces Recall of Over 1.6 Million Vehicles Due to Safety Defect

Houston, Texas – Hyundai Motor America has recalled over 1.6 million vehicles because of an issue with the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module. The recall comes in response to certain model Hyundais experiencing engine compartment fires.

The defective ABS module has resulted in an internal brake fluid leak that may cause an electrical short circuit in the affected vehicles. This short circuit poses a serious risk of igniting an engine compartment fire when the vehicles are parked or operating. Such fires can result in accidents that may lead to injury or death.

Vehicles affected by the defective ABS module include:

2011-2015 Elantra, Genesis Coupe, and Sonata Hybrid
2012-2015 Accent, Azera, and Veloster
2013-2015 Elantra Coupe and Santa Fe
2014-2015 Equus
2010-2012 Veracruz
2010-2013 Tucson
2015 Tucson Fuel Cell
2013 Santa Fe Sport
