Kia America Announces Recall of Over 1.7 Million Vehicles Due to Safety Defect

Houston, Texas – Kia America, Inc. has recalled 1,730,192 vehicles in response to a defect in the vehicle’s anti-lock brake system (ABS) module. The defect has led to certain model Kias experiencing engine compartment fires.

The identified problem centers around the ABS module. The model can potentially leak and cause an electrical short circuit. This short circuit poses a serious risk of igniting an engine compartment fire when the affected vehicles are parked or operating. Such fires can result in accidents that may lead to injury or death.

Vehicles affected by the defective ABS module include:

2010-2013 Forte, Forte Koup, and Sportage
2011-2013 Optima Hybrid and Soul
2010-2019 Borrego
2015-2018 K900
2012-2017 Rio
2014-2016 Cadenza
2011-2015 Optima
2011-2014 Sorento
2010-2011 Rondo
