Rollover Accident Claims Life of Carl Nelson at The Intersection of 254th St. and 471st Ave Near Crooks, South Dakota

CROOKS, S.D. — On Tuesday afternoon, a maroon SUV was traveling westbound on 254th St. when it lost control and veered into a ditch.

Early indications suggest that the vehicle rolled over, partially ejecting the driver.

Mr. Nelson was pronounced deceased at the scene.

We will provide updates as they become available.

Thoughts on Rollover Crashes

This accident needs an investigation by trained professionals to examine all factors that led to the victim’s passing. In accidents like rollovers, the law is concerned with the cause of the accident and the cause of the injury. This is especially true when the accident involves certain SUVs and pick-up trucks.

The cause of the injury means that the vehicle a person is in should not contribute to serious injuries or deaths. For example, airbags should deploy, roofs should not crush in, and seatbelts should restrain (when used). When safety features fail to function correctly, the occupants of the vehicle are not provided the protection they need to survive a rollover crash. This is not fair, and manufacturers may be responsible when a defective vehicle causes serious injuries or deaths.

An independent investigation by trained professionals can determine if Mr. Nelson’s SUV falls under this category. If it does, the manufacturer must be held accountable for their defective product.

May all the questions about this tragic accident be answered soon, and the family of Mr. Nelson receive justice for any wrongdoing that may have contributed to this crash.
