Tanker Truck Driver Ejected in Attempt to Avoid Accident with NCDOT Truck on U.S. 264 in Nash County, Bailey, North Carolina

BAILEY, N.C. — On Tuesday, around 1 p.m.,  a diesel tanker driver lost his life on U.S. 264 East near Exit 11 (N.C. 581/Oak Avenue) in Nash County.

The incident transpired when an N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) truck was maneuvering into the left lane of U.S. 264 from the median,  attempting to merge into the right lane.

The lane change by the NCDOT vehicle prompted evasive actions from the fuel tanker and other vehicles on the roadway to avoid a collision with the NCDOT truck. The fuel tanker veered into the median, and the driver was ejected.

Further information will be shared as it becomes available.

Thoughts on N.C. Department of Transportation Truck That May Have Caused Accident

Driving on the road is a privilege no one should take for granted. When a driver places other motorists in harm’s way and causes serious injuries or deaths due to unsafe driving practices, they need to be held accountable for their negligent actions.

It is unacceptable for a motorist to lose their life because another driver disregarded basic safety roadway rules. All drivers must ensure there is adequate room to merge before doing so. Interfering with or impeding oncoming traffic is not acceptable.

The victim’s family deserves answers and justice, and it is up to trained professionals to bring to light all the parties who failed this innocent motorist.
