Truck Accident in Burke County, Waynesboro, Georgia, Results in Fatal Collision with Car

Waynesboro, Georgia — At approximately 6:40 a.m. on U.S. 25 at the intersection of Hadden Pond Road north of Waynesboro, a Cadillac Brougham heading northbound collided with the side of an 18-wheeler that had come to a stop, blocking both northbound lanes of the highway.

The driver of the Cadillac sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision.

There is no information on the driver’s condition, and no further details are available at this time.

Thoughts on Collision with Stopped-Truck on the Roadway

Driving comes with responsibility. Drivers on the road must drive safely and cannot create unsafe situations for other motorists on the road. Truck drivers have an even bigger obligation to obey safety road rules since they are riding around on a 40-ton machine that can cause great harm to all motorists when not maneuvered safely. When truck drivers and the trucking companies that employ them break basic safety protocols and cause serious injuries or deaths, they should be held liable for the consequences of their negligent actions.

It is common knowledge that truckers should not block both lanes of traffic. Trained professionals will need to investigate this accident to determine what caused the truck driver to ignore this rule of safety and proceed to block both lanes of a highway. These are accidents that should have never happened — truckers must take adequate precautions to protect the motoring public.

Furthermore, trucking companies are responsible for hiring drivers who follow safety guidelines. These employers also have an obligation to train their drivers on basic truck safety rules. It is possible that the trucking company in this case failed to provide this basic training or did not manage their drivers safely. The trucking company very well may have some fault in this crash.

It is difficult to determine the parties responsible for this crash with the information currently available. However,  a person is dead, and safety rules were broken. A detailed investigation is needed to determine why and who is responsible. The family deserves answers and justice for the untimely and unexpected death of their loved one.
