Drivers Must Drive with Pedestrians in Mind All the Time
What a tragic incident. At first glance, it may seem that the pedestrian is at fault, but as we know in law, it takes digging to get all the facts and answers, and there is always more than what’s at the surface, especially when only one party survives. In this case, the deceased pedestrian’s family members deserve to know all the details to see if this horrific incident could be avoided.
Thousands of pedestrians are killed each year. In 2021 alone, 7,3888 pedestrians died in a vehicle incident (U.S. Department of Transportation, 2023). Incidents like this one serve as a somber reminder of the importance of safety and vigilance in high-traffic pedestrian areas. It is crucial to remember that pedestrians have zero protection against a massive vehicle weighing a few tons.
There are still too many unknown facts in this case to draw conclusions, but one thing we need to confirm in cases like these is that all safety measures were taken by all parties to prevent this terrible tragedy. For example, truck drivers often pull out of parking lots distracted and unaware of their surroundings. In this case, did the driver get inside his car attentively, or was he distracted by his phone and drove off speeding without regard to pedestrians? Was the music too loud, or was the driver too fatigued not to hear or feel anything? Driving without care for the safety of pedestrians is a serious matter, and drivers who fail to have safety measures in place must be held accountable.
Getting all the details is essential when it comes to the loss of any human life. The family of this pedestrian deserves to know what happened and for compensation if any wrongdoing is determined.
Our heartfelt thoughts go out to the family.
