General Motors Recalls Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Vehicles Over Steering Safety Defect


Houston, Texas – General Motors (GM), a leading global automotive manufacturer, has recalled 3,893 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles for an issue involving the steering gear shaft that could impact the steering arm, posing a risk of steering loss and increasing the potential for accidents.

The NHTSA has reported that the steering gear shaft in these vehicles may fracture and disconnect from the steering arm under certain operating conditions. This malfunction could lead to a loss of steering control, significantly elevating the risk of accidents.

In response to this safety concern, General Motors will mail notification letters to affected vehicle owners by September 18. GM dealerships will conduct inspections and, if necessary, replace the steering gear at no cost to the vehicle owners.

The specific 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles included in this recall are as follows:

  • 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 
  • 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 
  • 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 
  • 2024 GMC Sierra 3500
