Nissan Recalls Over 230,000 Vehicles Due to Steering Control Defect

Houston, Texas – Nissan has recalled 236,238 of its 2020-2022 Sentra vehicles, citing potential steering control issues. The recall, prompted by safety concerns related to the left tie rod and right tie rod components, comes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of Nissan Sentra owners.

Nissan’s filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that either one or both of the front tie rods may deform under certain operating conditions, leading to the possibility of bending or breaking. Such a malfunction may result in drivers losing control over steering, significantly increasing the risk of accidents.

Starting October 5, the company will commence sending notification letters to affected Sentra owners. Replacement parts are anticipated to be available during the winter of 2023-2024, as confirmed by the NHTSA. In the meantime, owners experiencing symptoms like an off-center steering wheel or vibration are advised to contact their nearest Nissan dealer for an interim inspection and repair. Dealerships will inspect and replace any bent or broken tie rods free of charge.

Owners who require further information or assistance related to this recall are encouraged to contact Nissan’s customer service at 1-800-867-7669. The specific recall number for this initiative is R23B3. It is important to note that this recall supersedes and expands upon recall number 21V-461, a recall issued in June 2021 that affected over 138,000 Sentra vehicles for the same steering issue. Vehicles previously repaired under the 2021 recall will need to have the new remedy applied, as stated by the company.
