Clewiston, Florida – An accident unfolded in Hendry County on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the loss of one life. The incident occurred on U.S. Highway 27 and Airglades Boulevard in Clewiston at approximately 1:41 p.m., as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
According to FHP reports, the accident was triggered by an issue with the vehicle’s tire while traveling northbound on U.S. 27. The sudden tire failure caused the car to veer uncontrollably across the median and into the opposite lanes of traffic. In its path, the vehicle collided with another vehicle and struck a guardrail.
The driver of the vehicle that suffered the tire failure was forcefully ejected from the vehicle during the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second vehicle’s driver involved in the collision was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
Investigation of What Caused the Tire to Fail is Needed Before Fault Can be Determined.
Tires should not fail motorists. In 2021, there were 622 tire-related fatalities on the road (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). Many of these deaths are caused by things completely outside the control of the driver.
Tire failures can happen for a variety of reasons, including manufacturing defects in the tire or vehicle or because of improper repair by a service company. When this is the case, the negligent parties must be held accountable for any injury or death their actions caused.
Our law firm has handled hundreds of cases where defective tires and vehicles have caused severe injury or death. These are especially dangerous accidents because the motorists are completely unaware of the impending failure, leaving them unprepared to control the vehicle. Manufacturers that produce defective tires and vehicles must be held accountable for the injuries and deaths caused by their defective products.
The same goes for maintenance and repair shops that improperly repair a vehicle. When tire repair or replacement mistakes are made and cause an injury or death, the shop responsible for the mistake must be held accountable.
Trained professionals will need to investigate this accident to determine exactly what caused it. If wrongdoing by a manufacturer or repair shop is determined, the family should be given clear answers and a right to hold the wrongdoer responsible under the law.
