Construction Worker Jorge De La Torre Killed and Two Others Injured in a Crane Accident in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Ft. Lauderdale – One worker died, and two others suffered injuries when part of a construction crane fell onto the SE 3rd Avenue bridge. The incident happened on Thursday on a high-rise in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

According to reports, the accident occurred during a process known as “stepping the crane,” wherein a section is added to increase the crane’s height. However, it was not the crane that failed; rather, it was a platform on which equipment was staged that gave way, causing items to fall onto the bridge below.

Twenty-seven-year-old construction worker Jorge De La Torre fell with the crane piece and lost his life.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the circumstances of the accident.

KAST, the construction company involved, has faced legal actions alleging negligence and injury in the past.

Another young construction worker loses his life, leaving behind a grieving family to pick up the pieces. It goes without saying that this death should never have happened, and the companies responsible for this man’s passing should be held accountable.
