Edith McKee Killed in an Accident with a Semi-truck on Interstate 44 Near Sullivan, Missouri

Sullivan, MO – A woman lost her life when a semi-truck collided with her vehicle. The incident took place on I-44 near Sullivan on Wednesday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2016 Kenworth Conventional semi-truck traveling westbound veered into the median, penetrated the cable barrier, and crossed into the eastbound lane, colliding with the right side of a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse. Both vehicles slid off the road and caught fire.

The driver of the SUV, Edith McKee, 59, of Sullivan, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The semi-truck driver sustained minor injuries.

Thoughts on semi-truck accidents

It deeply troubles me when an individual loses their life in a car accident they had no time to anticipate, react, or defend themselves against. The suddenness and vulnerability of these fatal collisions bring great distress, especially to the surviving loved ones. It is important for those at fault for such crashes to be held accountable for their actions.

The news release suggests the collision occurred when a semi-truck crossed the eastbound lane and collided with Ms. McKee’s vehicle. Why did this happen? Was the trucker distracted or speeding? Was there a mechanical issue that caused some loss of control? While we cannot draw conclusions as to what happened, these are common factors in fatal accidents we see repeatedly.

Only a thorough investigation by trained professionals will determine the root cause of this tragedy and provide the surviving family with the answers they so desperately deserve.

Our hearts go out to the loved ones of Ms. McKee as they navigate the difficult journey ahead, grappling with the loss of their cherished family member.
