Gary Kirchhefer Dies in a One-Vehicle Rollover Accident on Highway 92 west of Scottsbluff, Nebraska

Scottsbluff, NE –  A man died in a rollover crash on Tuesday night west of Scottsbluff.

According to reports, 53-year-old Gary Kirchhefer was traveling eastbound on Highway 92 when his Chevrolet pickup truck veered off the roadway before rolling over.

No further details have been released.

Trucks must be designed to protect occupants in rollover crashes

While it’s easy to assume that a driver is solely responsible for the injuries suffered in a rollover crash, that may not be true. Rollovers are known to be one of the most dangerous types of accidents, and vehicle manufacturers have a duty to produce vehicles that can protect us during a rollover crash. It does not make sense for one person to survive a crash and another person to die simply because of the model of truck they are driving.

Unfortunately, some truck models have a history of defects that fail to safeguard occupants during rollover incidents. This is most common in the late 90s and early 2000 model Chevy and Ford pickups. Common truck defects in these vehicles include seatbelts that fail to restrain, airbags that do not deploy, and weak roofs that collapse upon impact. These defects can lead to devastating injuries such as head trauma, spinal cord damage, and death.

If an inspection of the truck determines that one of these known defects was the cause of the fatal injuries suffered in this crash, the surviving family deserves answers and accountability from the manufacturer.
