Larry Darnell Hurt in a Rollover Accident on Interstate 65 in Benton County, Warsaw, Missouri

Warsaw, Mo. — One man sustained moderate injuries in a rollover accident on Interstate 65. The incident happened at approximately 10:05 a.m. on Friday.

According to reports, Larry Darnell was driving southbound in a 2012 Ford F-350 when he veered across the median into the northbound lanes and continued off the east side of the roadway, striking a guardrail and overturning.

Mr. Darnell was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Emergency personnel transported him to the hospital.

No further details have been provided.

Thoughts on rollover accidents

It is good news that Mr. Darnell survived the rollover, considering these accidents rank among the leading causes of death in vehicle collisions. However, this does not mean he does not have a long road ahead of him. Rollovers can cause serious head, neck, shoulder, and traumatic brain injuries, as well as spinal cord injuries and crushing injuries. Some truck models, like the Ford F-350, can increase an occupant’s chance of serious injury.

Ford F-350s have a long history of defects. These defects primarily involve roofs that crush during the rollover. Put simply, some F-350 pickup trucks were designed with roofs too weak to withstand a rollover crash, causing occupants to suffer serious injuries that would have been preventable had the roof been designed to support the weight of the truck.

We have handled this same case many times across the country for people who had no idea that their truck was dangerously defective. This is not fair. Motorists should be provided with the known risks of a vehicle so they can make an educated decision on whether they want to purchase that vehicle or one that is better equipped to protect them in a rollover accident.

While we have handled many cases involving the F-350 truck, the accident still must be investigated before it can be determined whether the injuries suffered here were the result of a defective roof or if they would have been suffered no matter what.

If the injuries sustained in this accident would have been prevented had the vehicle’s design been different, then Ford may be required to compensate Mr. Darnell for his injuries.

Our thoughts are with Mr. Darnell as he begins his recovery.
