One Person Dead After a Crash with a Parked Semi-truck at I-640 West Ramp to I-75 North in Knoxville, Tennessee

Knoxville, Tenn. — One person died in an accident with a parked tractor-trailer on the ramp from I-640 West to I-75 North. The incident unfolded around 5:15 a.m.

According to reports, a sedan rear-ended a semi-truck parked on the right shoulder of I-75 North.

Emergency personnel pronounced the sedan driver dead at the scene.

No further details have been provided.

Truck Drivers cannot park their trucks on highways and avoid liability

Some may hastily assign blame to the deceased driver for colliding with a parked vehicle. However, since when has it been a good idea to park a full-sized semi-truck next to a lane of moving traffic? Shouldn’t the truck driver recognize that even a slight deviation by a passing motorist could result in serious injury or death?

Truckers who park in such locations should not escape liability by blaming the deceased driver. This is especially true when the driver chooses to park the truck next to a moving lane of traffic in hours of darkness. Truck drivers should be held accountable when their actions contribute to someone losing their life.

I hope the surviving family finds the guidance, answers, and justice they deserve.
