Pedestrian Seriously Injured After a Tow Truck Driver Struck Her at the intersection of Rockingham Road and South Concord Street in Davenport, Iowa

Davenport, Iowa –  A man faces charges following a collision involving a pedestrian and a tow truck he was driving. He was taken into custody and booked into the Scott County Jail on Tuesday, charged with serious injury by vehicle, knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury, and obstruction of prosecution or defense. Additionally, he was cited for several traffic violations, including reckless driving and failure to yield to a pedestrian.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Rockingham Road and South Concord Street. According to reports, the tow truck driver struck the pedestrian while crossing Rockingham Road in a crosswalk with the right of way and the walk sign.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian sustained serious injuries, including fractures to her right femur, pelvis, and ribs. Video evidence showed the driver using and texting on his phone while driving a  2016 Freightliner M2 106 Medium Tow Truck just before the crash, and he was observed leaving the scene afterward.

In addition to the charges related to the crash, officers discovered the driver had deleted text messages and phone records from his phone following the incident.

He is scheduled to appear in Court to face the charges brought against him.

There are so many traffic laws broken here. Our thoughts go out to the injured woman who didn’t have a chance against someone who disregarded safety protocols. This tow truck driver should be held accountable for the pain and suffering, loss of wages, and medical expenses this pedestrian faces.
