Two Women Die When Rear-ended by a Semi-truck  at the intersection of Highway 2 and County Road 36 in Lincoln, Nebraska

Lincoln, Neb. – Two women lost their lives in a collision with a semi-trailer in southeast Nebraska. The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 2 and County Road 36 near Syracuse.

According to reports, an SUV stopped due to a road obstruction, and a semi-truck rear-ended it.

Both occupants of the SUV, identified as a 61-year-old woman and a 54-year-old woman from Florida, were pronounced dead at the scene.

No further details have been provided.

Thoughts on semi-trucks and rear-end collisions

Distance. Distance. Distance. I cannot stress enough how important it is for semi-trucks to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of them and always remain alert and attentive to traffic ahead. The roadways can be unpredictable, and unexpected obstacles may cause a motorist to stop suddenly. Truckers have to drive with this in mind and keep enough distance to brake safely without colliding with the front vehicle. When they fail to do this, and people die, they need to be held accountable.

As the surviving families navigate their painful loss, our thoughts are with them. May they receive the answers and guidance they need.
