According to reports, the semi-truck attempted a U-turn at the intersection of Hwy 30 and Irish Lane and entered the path of a 2002 Ford truck heading west.
Emergency personnel had to extricate the Ford truck driver, Carlos Macias, from his vehicle.

Investigating semi-truck accidents
The truck driver and trucking company may try to blame the injured motorists for running into the semi-truck. However, this is not fair and should not happen. No one can cut off the right of way of another vehicle. You cannot force another vehicle to stop so you can make a turn.
This is especially true with a semi-truck. A semi’s size and dimensions place passenger vehicles at a disadvantage on our roadways. These large trucks can block traffic and take up several lanes when performing U-turns.
When a trucker performs a U-turn and has an accident that injures another motorist, an investigation needs to take place to determine what went wrong. There are special rules truckers must follow. Were all those rules followed here?
Many times, these accidents happen when truckers don’t know the rules. Trucking companies have a duty to train and educate their drivers on how to turn their trucks and drive safely. These companies should also provide trucks with working mirrors, cameras, and even video technology to help truckers get a better view of the traffic around them. When trucking companies fail to do this, and a collision happens where someone is seriously injured, the company may also be at fault.
It appears that this accident should not have happened and that the injured deserves answers. An independent investigation will determine exactly what happened, the rules that were broken, and the best path forward for the injured driver. Once all wrongdoing is determined, those at fault should be held responsible for the pain and injuries the injured suffered as a result of this crash.
