Dawn Hall is Killed in a Chain-reaction accident Involving a semi-truck on I-55 in Braceville, Illinois

Braceville, Illinois — A woman died in a chain reaction crash on Friday night at I-55 near Braceville Road.

According to reports, the incident began when an earlier crash and fire involving multiple semis in the northbound lanes slowed traffic down. That’s when a semi-tractor-trailer struck Dawn M. Hall’s vehicle from behind, pushing it into another vehicle ahead of her.

Hall was pronounced dead at the scene.

No further details have been provided.

Thoughts on fatal truck accidents

The Large Truck Crash Causation Study (LTCCS) by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration found that 23 percent of large-truck collisions happen when truck drivers travel too fast for conditions. Failing to adjust speed in heavy traffic leads to crashes like this one.

Why did this happen?  Heavy traffic requires the full attention of truckers. Because of their massive size and force, large trucks have no room for error: they must drive attentively at all times, maintaining a safe distance and avoiding all distractions.

The deceased’s family deserves answers.
