Jason Marshall Killed and Timothy Washburn Injured in a Semi-truck Accident on Route 390 in Dansville, New York

Dansville, New York – A man lost his life, and another man was injured when a tractor-trailer struck them. The incident took place on Tuesday near Exit 4 on Route 390.

According to reports, Jason Marshall and Timothy Washburn were assisting a disabled tractor-trailer on the highway’s shoulder. The two roadside responders were helping when another northbound tractor-trailer collided with the disabled vehicle’s side.

The truck struck Marshall and Washburn. Jason Marshall was pronounced dead at the scene. Timothy Washburn sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital.

The truck driver was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, driving while impaired by drugs, and various traffic violations.

Thoughts on impaired truck drivers on the roadways

In the wake of this tragic incident, numerous questions linger, particularly for the grieving family who lost a loved one. Families in such situations deserve answers and justice for the reckless, senseless action of those responsible for the crash.

Truck drivers play a pivotal role in road safety, bearing the responsibility of operating massive vehicles that can cause catastrophic harm when not handled properly. This is why driving under the influence of drugs is strictly prohibited for truckers by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

Trucking companies are also responsible for thoroughly vetting their drivers, ensuring only safe truckers are on our roadways. Did the trucking company do their due diligence when hiring drivers? This critical question will bring insight into how much fault the trucking company shares in this terrible accident.

Another question that arises is why a disabled vehicle was on the road. We again turn to the trucking company. Employers have to inspect their trucks regularly and keep them free of mechanical issues on the roads. When they fail to do this, they may also share fault for the hazardous situation they created.

When a truck driver or a trucking company fails to uphold their responsibility, the responsible must be held accountable. Independent investigations by professionals provide answers to grieving families and ensure a safer community for everyone.

The surviving family and the injured deserve answers, accountability, and justice for the pain and suffering they have experienced because of this trucker’s recklessness.
