Jose Payano Struck and Killed by a Semi-truck on the New York State Thruway in Orange County, Newburgh, NY

Newburgh, NY —  A man died when a Peterbilt tractor-trailer sideswiped a stationary Volvo bobtail tractor on the right shoulder of the roadway. The incident occurred Wednesday morning between Exit 17 near Newburgh and Exit 16 near Harriman.

According to reports, Jose L. Payano was outside the bobtail when the tractor-trailer struck him. The impact caused fatal injuries, and Payano was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Peterbilt tractor-trailer rolled over upon impact, and the driver was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
