One Man Dead in Accident with Semi-truck on U.S. 223 in Lenawee County in Madison Township, Michigan

Madison Township, Michigan – A man was killed when the Chevy Impala he was traveling in collided with a 2022 Kenworth semi-truck. The incident happened Monday morning on U.S. 223 in Lenawee County.

Early reports state a semi-truck was traveling westbound, and at the same time, a Chevy Impala was making a left turn onto Division Street from eastbound U.S. 223. During the left turn, The semi-truck collided with the passenger side of the Impala.

The front seat passenger in the Impala, a 30-year-old man from Clayton, Michigan, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized, while the semi-truck driver was hospitalized with minor injuries.

No other details have been provided.

Fatal accidents need to be investigated.

When someone loses their life in a crash, the surviving family deserves to know what happened. They should also be given a right to hold the people responsible for the crash accountable for their loss.

Most accidents are not entirely the fault of one party. There are often multiple reasons why an accident occurs. This accident reminds me of one that we recently handled, where a family was killed after pulling in front of a tractor-trailer. After investigating the crash, we determined the trucker was speeding and on his cell phone. Because he was breaking the law, he did not have time to avoid a crash that should have been avoided.

In that crash, both the truck driver and the deceased driver did something wrong. However, the trucker walked away alive while a family lost their lives. That is not fair and is why truck drivers are held to a higher safety standard than other motorists. Trucks are big and dangerous. Truck drivers must take every precaution to avoid accidents because an accident with a semi-truck is catastrophic.

We do not know what happened here. However, the surviving family deserves answers and justice if any wrongdoing led to the death of their loved one.
