A Concrete Truck Overturns, Injuring Truck Driver on US 70 in Clayton, North Carolina,  Following a Tire Blowout

Clayton, NC—A concrete truck overturned on U.S. Highway 70 after experiencing a tire blowout. The incident took place Thursday morning.

According to a trooper at the scene, the truck suffered a tire blowout and despite the driver’s efforts to maintain control, the vehicle overturned.

Emergency personnel transported the driver to WakeMed with injuries. Details regarding the severity of the driver’s injuries remain undisclosed.

Thoughts on tire blowouts

Tire blowouts can instill fear and render even the most skilled drivers powerless and unable to regain control of their vehicles. What makes a blowout even scarier is that it can happen without any warning signs and no fault of the driver.

We have handled many instances where a defect in the design or construction caused a tire blowout. This problem traces back to the manufacturer who allowed a flawed product on our roadways. These defective tires pose significant risks, such as severe injury or loss of life. Drivers of commercial trucks should not have to suffer injuries when a tire is defective. The manufacturer of such a tire should be held accountable.

While the cause of the tire failure in this accident remains unknown, an investigation conducted by trained professionals equipped with the experience to identify pivotal factors can help uncover the root cause of the blowout. Should a manufacturing defect be determined as the cause, ensuring manufacturers are held liable for producing reliable and secure tires becomes a mission to make sure that fewer of these incidents happen in the future.
