James Williams Killed by a Semi-truck that Failed to Stop at a Red Light in Winston-Salem, North Carolina

Winston-Salem, North Carolina — A man was killed on his motorcycle when a semi-tractor with a trailer failed to stop at a red light.

According to reports, the tractor-trailer was traveling west on Silas Creek Parkway when they failed to heed a red light, colliding with motorcyclist James Daniel Williams, who had a green light.

Mr. Williams died of his injuries at the hospital.

The driver operating the semi-tractor with a trailer faces charges of Failure to Stop at a Steady Red Light and Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle.

Thoughts on semi-trucks that fail to stop at red lights

Tragedies like this highlight the importance of truck drivers obeying traffic laws, especially when operating heavy vehicles like semi-tractors with trailers. These vehicles cannot afford to break the rules: their sheer size poses immense roadway risks. When these trucks do not take the safety of other motorists to heart, and a catastrophic accident like this one happens as a result, they need to be held accountable.

Accountability must extend beyond just the driver; trucking companies must also be held responsible if they neglect to properly vet their drivers or promote a culture where safety does not reign.

The family left behind by Mr. Williams deserves answers and justice for their unimaginable loss. The financial and emotional toll of such tragedies is immeasurable.

Let us hope that through the legal process, the family finds the closure and justice they rightfully deserve.
