Thoughts on collisions with parked semi-trucks
Two women died on our roadways, and we are left asking why. Why did the Toyota leave the travel lane even though it was likely equipped with lane assistance technology to prevent this from happening? Why did a trucker choose to park a semi next to a moving lane of traffic and put all other motorists in danger? The surviving family deserves answers to these questions.
While we do not know what caused the 2022 Toyota to veer off, we are left asking whether the Lane Assist Technology available in newer car models like this one offered sufficient warning mechanisms to prevent the vehicle from drifting from its lane. With the addition of Lane Assist Technology, drivers are provided additional support to stay within their lanes, decreasing the likelihood of such accidents. However, when this technology malfunctions, the repercussions can be catastrophic, as seen in this collision. If the Lane Assist Technology did not work as intended, there may be grounds to hold the manufacturer accountable for this devastating accident.
Another concern is the parked semi-truck on the interstate. Semi-trucks parked next to a moving lane of traffic have become a frequent problem, repeatedly resulting in fatal crashes. We are handling more and more of these cases every year. There are very few reasons to justify parking a semi next to a moving lane of traffic. It is dangerous, repeatedly results in fatalities, and should be avoided at all costs.
Accidents like this one require a thorough investigation by trained professionals. Accountability needs to happen if another party’s negligence contributed to this fatal crash.
May the families of the deceased receive the answers they deserve.
