Jeremiah Beckley Killed in a Facility Accident at Detroit Tool Metal Products in Lebanon, Missouri

Lebanon, Mo. — A worker was found dead at the Detroit Tool Metal Products (DTMP) facility.

According to reports, 49-year-old Jeremiah Beckley was found pinned beneath a large metal spool weighing approximately 1,000 pounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

OSHA has been notified, and no further updates have been provided.

Thoughts on workplace accidents

In 2022, there were 5,486 recorded fatal work injuries in the United States, marking a 5.7-percent increase from the 5,190 fatalities reported in 2021(Bureau of Labor Statistics). We cannot continue to lose our workers, the backbone of America.

Companies are responsible for implementing safety procedures to decrease risks and protect workers from harm. Questions arise regarding whether the facility involved in this incident had adequate safety procedures in place to prevent accidents, such as Mr. Beckley’s fatal injury from a 1,000-pound metal spool. Were equipment and supplies properly stored and secured to avoid such incidents? Were employees adequately trained in handling hazardous machinery and tools?
