Kevin Gast Killed in a Rollover Accident Near the Intersection of Wilt Road and Hinkle Butte Road in Sisters, Oregon

Sisters, Oregon – Kevin Blake Gast, 65, lost his life in a single-vehicle accident on Tuesday. The incident happened near the intersection of Wilt Road and Hinkle Butte Road.

Deputies from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a rollover accident. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a Dodge Ram pickup resting on its side on the shoulder of the road.

Mr. Gast died at the accident site.

No further details regarding the accident have been released.

Thoughts on rollover accidents

One wrong move, and in a matter of seconds, a driver can lose control of their vehicle. This is especially true for motorists with pickup trucks. Even more concerning is that certain pickup trucks can cause occupants more harm than the initial crash itself would. When this happens, it means the truck left the manufacturer with defects. This is unacceptable and manufacturers must be held responsible when this occurs.

When a defect in the vehicle causes injuries or fatalities in a rollover crash, the responsibility falls squarely on the manufacturer. Manufacturers must ensure that their trucks can endure the impact of a rollover without causing additional injury to occupants. With Dodge Ram pickups, this means addressing defects such as roof crush (when the roof smashes occupants), defective seatbelts, and airbags that do not deploy.

In short, a truck’s structure should withstand the impact of a rollover. When this does not happen, the manufacturer should be held accountable, based on the facts and circumstances, for the harm suffered in the crash.

Our thoughts are with the surviving family and all they have endured. May they receive the answers they need.
