Man Seriously Hurt in Crash with Semi on US-31 in Ottawa County, Michigan

Ottawa County, Mich. — A van and a semi-truck collided on US-31, leaving one man critically injured.

According to reports, the incident transpired when a semi-truck stopped in a northbound lane of US-31, and a van collided with the semi’s rear.

The van’s driver sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash.

No further details have been released.

Thoughts on semi-trucks that stop and cause collisions

Rear-end collisions can be quite complex. While these crashes seem to be the fault of the person who slams into the vehicle in front of them, this is not always the case. When the driver in front abruptly hits the brakes or decelerates unexpectedly, leaving the following driver with insufficient time to react and prevent a collision, it can be the driver’s fault in front. And when it is their fault, they should be held accountable for any harm they cause.

When the stopping vehicle is a full-size semi-truck, things are more serious. Trucks should not stop in the middle of flowing traffic— truck drivers know this. So what made this trucker driver halt in the middle of the highway? The injured driver deserves to know what caused this accident and whether it could have been prevented.

An investigation by trained professionals can help determine the factors that led to this crash. If it is determined that negligence or wrongdoing led to this collision, the parties responsible should be held accountable.
