Nine People Dead, and One Injured in a Semi-truck and Van Accident at the Intersection of Highway 95 in Dewhurst Township, Wisconsin  

Dewhurst Township, Wisconsin –  A collision between a semi-truck and a van at a highway intersection in Wisconsin has resulted in nine fatalities and one individual sustaining injuries.

According to authorities, the tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound on Highway 95, and a van was traveling northbound on County Road J when the van entered the intersection, and the semi struck the van as it entered the intersection.

Eight occupants of the van, including the driver, were pronounced dead at the crash site.

The semi-truck driver also died on the scene. Emergency responders transported the lone survivor, a passenger in the van, to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification to their relatives.

Thoughts on fatal intersection collisions with semi-trucks

There are no words to describe an accident of this magnitude and carnage. We must find out all the factors that led to this horrific incident. If any wrongdoing is determined, there must be accountability.

We handled a case like this a couple of years back where a vehicle pulled in front of a truck at an intersection. Multiple people were killed. When we investigated the crash, we found that the trucker was speeding while using his phone. This prevented him from keeping a proper lookout. When he did notice the vehicle in front of him, he pulled to the left, hitting the vehicle. If he had been paying attention, he would have gone right and missed the vehicle altogether.

There is no way of knowing if there is any fault on anyone but the driver of the van. However, a crash of this magnitude will shake communities and leave families broken. If the accident could have been avoided with greater care, all involved deserve to know.
