Steven Schanning Killed in a Two Semi Collision on U.S. Highway 75 at 180th Street in Gary, South Dakota

Gary, SD – Steven Michael Schanning lost his life when a Peterbilt semi crashed with the International semi-truck he was driving. The incident happened Sunday at U.S. Highway 75 180th Street, Hamlin Township, Lac Qui Parle County.

According to reports, a 2000 Peterbilt entered Highway 75 and collided with the southbound 2000 International semi, killing Schanning.

No further details have been provided.

Thoughts on fatal two semi-collisions

Use turn signals, check mirrors, check blind spots, look forward, and merge onto the highway at a safe speed. We can never get too comfortable behind the wheel that we forget to follow these life-saving steps. Especially as truck drivers— the consequences can be devastating.

Although we do not have all the details as to what transpired between these two semi-trucks, we know that one trucker lost his life and that, many times, the cause of collisions like this one is driver error. If an investigation by trained professionals determines that negligent factors caused this fatal crash, the truck driver and the trucking company will need to answer to the deceased’s family. They deserve to know what caused their loved one their life while on the road.

Our hope is that the surviving family will receive the answers they deserve and that justice will be served if any wrongdoing is found.
