Trucker William Diaz Killed in a Collision with Another Semi-truck on Interstate 10 near Fabens, Texas

Fabens, Texas — A truck driver lost his life when his semi-truck crashed with another semi. The incident happened on Saturday night on I-10 West near the Fabens exit.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that William Diaz, 56, succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash.

Further details, including the circumstances leading to the crash, have not been disclosed.

Thoughts on crashes between semi-trucks

Our truck drivers are the backbone of America. They spend weeks away from their families and sacrifice the comfort of their homes to deliver the everyday goods we need. These dedicated drivers deserve to be safe when they are at their home away from home— the roadways.

When truckers die on the job, an investigation needs to happen to determine who or what caused the accident and whether it could have been prevented. If the incident was preventable, the next step is holding those responsible accountable.

The news release tells us that Mr. Diaz lost his life when his truck crashed with another semi. Why? Was it driver error? A mechanical issue such as brake failure? Truckers should be provided with well-maintained, regularly inspected commercial trucks for everyone’s safety. When a mechanical issue causes a fatal collision, someone needs to be held accountable for allowing a truck with problems on the road.

Our thoughts go out to the family of Mr. Diaz, who are now left without their loved one and with many questions. They deserve answers and to know if any wrongdoing happened here.

May all the facts come out soon.
