One man died after a Semi-truck and Pickup Truck Accident Near New Sapulpa Road and S 61st W Ave in Sapulpa, Oklahoma

Sapulpa, Okla. — An accident involving a semi-truck and a pickup truck resulted in one man dying. The incident took place near the intersection of New Sapulpa Road and S 61st W Ave, close to the boundary between Tulsa and Sapulpa.

According to preliminary reports, the semi-truck was backing out onto New Sapulpa Road from a nearby parking lot when the pickup truck driver, who was already traveling on the road, collided with the semi’s trailer.

The pickup truck driver was pronounced dead at the location of the accident. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Thoughts on semi-truck accidents with passenger vehicles

Those grieving the loss of their loved one from this crash rightfully deserve answers and justice. Questions about the truck driver’s thought process during the maneuver, the level of training provided by the trucking company, and the company’s adherence to safety standards to prevent such dangerous actions must be addressed.

The belief that truck drivers can avoid responsibility by blaming others for not avoiding their trailers is wrong. This is the belief that continues to lead to these serious, fatal accidents. In just the past couple of months, we have had at least two clients come to us after losing a loved one or suffering serious injuries in this exact same scenario.  When truckers back into a moving lane of traffic, people are killed.

Trucking companies and their drivers must acknowledge these risks and ensure comprehensive training is in place to avoid this practice. Truck drivers and their companies that fail to do this must be held responsible for the harm they cause.

Only through accountability, thorough training, and a commitment to safety can we hope to protect our roads and the lives of those who travel on them.
