Randal Benner Killed in an Accident with a Semi-truck on US 23 in Chillicothe, Ohio


Chillicothe, Ohio — A man was killed in a collision with a semi-truck on Wednesday evening. The deadly crash happened when a southbound 2020 Volvo commercial tractor-trailer made an improper lane change and collided with a 2012 Ford Escape. The impact forced both vehicles off the right side of the roadway.

The Ford Escape driver, Randal Benner, succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash.

No further information has been released.

Thoughts on semi-trucks

Look ahead, check mirrors often, and approach intersections with caution. These are safety tips the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires commercial truck operators to follow when changing lanes. When truckers cease to act safely, and their actions cause a catastrophic accident, someone has to answer.

In this tragic incident, the surviving family deserves to know exactly what transpired. They deserve to hear the testimony of the truck driver under oath to know exactly what happened.

The trucking company should also need to account for any part they played in this preventable death. Trucking companies must train their drivers to follow the rules. Drivers who do not understand the serious risk their actions cause to others are a danger on our roadways.
