Semi-truck Driver Norris Davis Suffers Serious Injuries After Colliding with a Freightliner Truck on Interstate 29 in Saint Joseph, Missouri

Saint Joseph, Missouri – Two Freightliner trucks collided, leading to one semi-truck driver suffering serious injuries. The incident took place around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday on Interstate 29.

According to reports, Norris S. Davis was driving a 2021 Freightliner when it collided with the rear of a parked 2024 Freightliner on the shoulder of the median. The impact caused the parked truck to push Davis’s vehicle and the truck’s towed units off the roadway. Davis’ truck came to rest on its wheels facing west.

Trucker Davis was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

Thoughts on parked trucks on shoulder medians

Trucking is a dangerous industry: our truck drivers face challenges on the road every day. From lack of parking in truck stops to pressure to meet deadline deliveries to mechanical issues, truckers have a lot on their plate. This is why we must do all we can to keep truckers safe.

One ongoing problem we must address to protect fellow truckers is dangerously parked semis, causing severe and sometimes fatal collisions on our roadways. The shoulder of a highway is generally no place for a large commercial truck to park. It is just too risky and dangerous for both the trucker and passing motorists.

Because of the danger it poses, federal regulations govern parked truck drivers to keep their flashers on and promptly place warning devices, including reflective triangles or flares, on the traffic side of the road. Did that happen here?

The injured driver faces a challenging road to recovery. They deserve answers about whether this accident could have been prevented. If negligence is found, they deserve justice and compensation for their medical expenses and suffering. Accountability is crucial in preventing similar incidents from happening in the future.
