Worker Critically injured when Derrick Collapses at an Oil Field in Long Beach,  California

Long Beach, California — An oil field worker suffered critical injuries after a derrick collapse. The incident happened on Monday in the 6600 block of Pacific Coast Highway.

According to reports, the worker was operating 50 feet high in a steel cage atop a work-over unit, a truck that transforms into an oil derrick for accessing pump units, when the derrick collapsed, causing steel to fall onto the cage.

The worker is said to be in critical but stable condition.
