How Can a Defective Door Latch Cause Injury?
During a crash, a defective door latch can cause the vehicle door to fly open and allow the occupant to come in contact with the ground or, worse, be ejected from the vehicle. This can lead to serious injuries, including broken bones, spinal cord injuries, paralysis, head and brain injuries, and even death.
Recall Notice: Defective Ford Door Latch News
Recently in the news, Ford has announced a recall on certain 2012 – 2016 model vehicles which include:
- 2012-15 Ford Focus
- 2013-15 Ford C-MAX
- 2013-15 Ford Escape
- 2015 Ford Mustang
- 2015 Lincoln MKC
- 2014-16 Ford Transit Connect vans
The affected vehicles have a pawl spring tab in the side door latch that could break, possibly preventing the door from latching. According to Ford, “a door latch with a fractured pawl spring tab typically results in a door-will-not-close condition.”
