Defective Door Latches

Defective Automobile Door Latches

When involved in an automobile accident, you expect the vehicle to keep you reasonably safe and free from preventable injuries. However, when an automobile manufacturer decides profit is more important than safety, causing them to allow defective auto parts and vehicles onto the consumer market, it can lead to serious injuries or death. If you have suffered a serious injury in a car accident and believe the vehicle was defective, you need the personal injury lawyers at The Ammons Law Firm to investigate your case.

At The Ammons Law Firm, we represent victims and their families who have suffered injury or death because of a vehicle defect, including defective automobile door latches. If you were injured in an accident or if your loved one was killed in an auto collision, and you believe a defective automobile door latch led to or worsened the crash, contact our Houston defective auto door latch attorneys right away for a free, no-obligation consultation.

How Can a Defective Door Latch Cause Injury?

During a crash, a defective door latch can cause the vehicle door to fly open and allow the occupant to come in contact with the ground or, worse, be ejected from the vehicle. This can lead to serious injuries, including broken bones, spinal cord injuries, paralysis, head and brain injuries, and even death.

Recall Notice: Defective Ford Door Latch News

Recently in the news, Ford has announced a recall on certain 2012 – 2016 model vehicles which include:

  • 2012-15 Ford Focus
  • 2013-15 Ford C-MAX
  • 2013-15 Ford Escape
  • 2015 Ford Mustang
  • 2015 Lincoln MKC
  • 2014-16 Ford Transit Connect vans

The affected vehicles have a pawl spring tab in the side door latch that could break, possibly preventing the door from latching. According to Ford, “a door latch with a fractured pawl spring tab typically results in a door-will-not-close condition.”
